Double-faced Cowboy Boots by Hood By Air HBA — the brainchild of designer Shayne Oliver — has a history of presenting unconventional styles and ‘un-wearable’ wearables. As a part of their 2017 Spring ready-to-wear collection shown at NYFW, HBA released a wild pair of leather cowboy boots featuring two pointed toes. The surrealistic double-facing shoes, which can be worn either backwards or forwards, formed part of the brand’s eccentric, PornHub-sponsored ‘Handkerchief’ collection. The boots are imbued in social symbolism — a concept present throughout the collection, which aims to subvert gender roles and challenge the norms of the fashion industry. The boots are not easy to wear, but they do play into Oliver’s abrasive design aesthetic, which prizes constantly breaking down and re-envisioning the ordinary, everyday pieces in our wardrobe.
