John Galliano shearling coat from the Autumn/Winter 2002 “Esquimeau” collection
This is a rare commercial version closely related to the dramatic shearling outerwear presented on the AW 2002 runway
While slightly more wearable than the showpiece, the coat retains the collection’s extraordinary sculptural proportions and theatrical construction
Made with 100% lamb shearling, the coat features a beautifully aged black suede exterior contrasted with the dense, curly shearling interior
Oversized cascading shearling panels frame the front and shoulders, creating an almost cape-like volume, while the high ribbed knit collar can be zipped up for a more enveloping silhouette
One of the most remarkable details is the construction around the hips
Substantial internal padding has been incorporated to exaggerate the hip line, creating a dramatically sculpted waist-to-hip silhouette reminiscent of the architecture of Dior’s iconic Bar Jacket
This gives the coat its distinctive hourglass shape despite the otherwise oversized proportions
Finished with a full-length two-way zip closure and exposed shearling seams throughout
The naturally aged suede surface gives the black leather beautiful tonal depth and character

The suede exterior shows natural and beautifully developed ageing throughout, consistent with the character of the material
There is one very small flaw to the left front leather panel and two small areas of damage to the ribbed knit on the inside of the collar
